biohazard 2 classic

BIOHAZARD 2 was the first sequel in the Series. Originally released for the Sony PlayStation, the story follows Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield after they arrived in Raccoon City.

PLOT

The story follows R.P.D Rookie Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield’s younger sister Claire.

Leon arrives in Raccoon City for his first day on the Police Force, Claire arrives in search of her brother.

They are quickly attacked on the streets of Raccoon City and decide to make their way to the Raccoon City Police Department.

FEATURES

BIOHAZARD 2 expanded upon the features set in the original 1996 release. Appart from allowing you to play as two different characters, each character’s scenario can directly affect the other character. This system setup allowed each character to have unique encounters which introduced new characters and expanded the story far beyond the Spencer Mansion.

A first in the series, BIOHAZARD 2 featured an on-screen damage indicator. Characters would grab their side when they were in the CAUTION stage and would likewise limp when they were in the DANGER stage.

DEVELOPMENT NOTES

Development for BIOHAZARD 2 was announced at Tokyo Game Show back in 1996, after the success of the original BIOHAZARD.

Hideki Kamiya, a System Planner for the original BIOHAZARD was brought in to Direct. The original version of BIOHAZARD 2 started with Leon S. Kennedy and Elza Walker. However, at three-quarters into the development process, Shinji Mikami suggested the team start from scratch since BIOHAZARD 2 was strikingly similar to the original BIOHAZARD. This version has been dubbed as BIOHAZARD 1.5.

Elza was the first major change in the new version, she quickly became Claire Redfield. Both protagonists came to Raccoon City in search of a loved one and they both had an affinity towards motorcycles. Curiously enough, George A. Romero the father of the modern Zombie Genre was brought in to direct two television commercials to promote BIOHAZARD 2. The game also came on two discs, which prompted Players to play the non-canon version first, since Leon’s disc was labeled as “Disc 1”.
