biohazard survivor 2 code veronica
BIOHAZARD Survivor 2 Code Veronica is the first title in the series to be developed for and released on the Arcade market. It features a non-canonical interpretation of the events which transpired in BIOHAZARD Code Veronica.
PLOT
The story follows Claire Redfield after she is captured by Umbrella, this lands her on Rockfort island, which quickly becomes ground zero for another viral outbreak.
Claire meets Steve Burnside, a prisoner on the island. They decide to team up in order to escape the island together.
Claire and Steve must fight their way through hordes of the undead.
FEATURES
BIOHAZARD Survivor 2 Code Veronica features a loose re-interpretation of the events of Code Veronica. Enemies from BIOHAZARD 2 and BIOHAZARD 3 as well as Code Veronica make an appearance to stop Claire and Steve. This is extremely evident with the appearance of NEMESIS as he tries to track Claire and Steve, emphasizing the need for timed sections throughout the entire game.
The traditional voice acting prevalent in the series is absent from Survivor 2, thus downplaying the experience. For the home market, Survivor 2 was compatible with the NAMCO GunCon 2 slightly enhancing the overall experience.
DEVELOPMENT NOTES
BIOHAZARD Survivor 2 was originally announced as BIOHAZARD Fire Zone, it was part of an exclusivity with NAMCO to develop a BIOHAZARD for the Arcade market.
After its release, Survivor 2 was ported to the Sony PlayStation 2 which included the ability to use the GunCon 2. However, the title only saw release in the Japanese and European markets. The environments were re-worked to present a shorter, more fluid arcade experience. Claire and Steve’s models appeared to be the same assets from Code Veronica, thus retaining the art style set in that previous release.
NEMESIS, however, was re-modeled, re-textured and re-animated compared to his previous appearance in BIOHAZARD 3. This was obviously done to match the art style of Survivor 2 and Code Veronica. The biggest absence in Survivor 2 was the inclusion of voice acting, this could have been omitted from the game due to CAPCOM‘s previous contractual agreements with the voice actor’s involved in Code Veronica. Instead of recasting or making new arrangements with the previous cast CAPCOM decided to use text for the in-game cutscenes.
